Performance

Two questions, and they are not the same question.

What a modpack costs a server is tick time and a player count. What it costs to play is frame time and which part of your machine ran out first. Mixing them into one number is how every other page gets this wrong.

Running a server

How many players a pack holds on a given machine, what gives out first, and what each mod in it costs. Measured by a load test the server runs on itself.

  • Players held, with the spread and the sample count
  • What gave out — the processor, memory, the collector, chunks
  • Cost per mod, per version, per thing standing there

Playing a pack

What a pack costs your own machine: the median frame, the worst one percent, and which of your parts ran out first. It comes from a benchmark the launcher runs, and there is nothing to show until people have run it.

  • Median frame time and the 1% low
  • Whether your processor or your card is the limit
  • Change a setting, run it again, see if it helped
